I can ensure the computers in my house are running efficiently; Some ways are by installing software such as CCleaner which allows me to clean up junk files and remove registry errors which can cause system slowdowns if not taken care of. I can defragment a hard drive to ensure speedy file access and a more efficient running hard drive due to organised fragments. I can speed up boot times of the operating system by disabling some start up applications from ‘msconfig’.

I have good knowledge on most of the components inside a computer and where they are placed due to the independent research I have done and from my BTEC IT lesson. I have good experience in installing operating systems and manually installing drivers for undetected devices. I know that you should ground yourself before operating on a computer to prevent damaging the components with static electricity. I know that an average desktop computer should only have a power supply of 250-300 watts as not much power is required for normal everyday tasks whereas more powerful computers used for graphics design should have power supplies with higher watts around 450-550. I can import GIFs and images into websites by insterting the URL and have learnt how to create animations using Serif Web Plus.

The programmes that I am familiar with are MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher, I have used MS Access and understand the relationship methods. Another program that I’m familiar with is CCleaner which helps speed up my computer by removing unnecessary files and allows me to uninstall programs and disable start up applications. I know how to use the graphics card control panel well and can over clock to enhance performance
