I have six years of experience in writing assistance, both as a freelancer and a consultant in writing centers. I have worked with clients on job applications, school applications, submissions for publication, non-fiction manuscripts, fiction manuscripts (novels and short stories), and poetry.
In more detail:
My professional background has been in higher education administration. My responsibilities have included writing and editing professional communications on behalf of university leadership and overall departments at esteemed institutions.
Additionally, I have worked in writing centers at two different higher education institutions, and have worked with clients at various points in their professional careers, including undergraduate and graduate students, PhD candidates, members of staff, and faculty. My work with these clients has included brainstorming, drafting, proofreading, and polishing on tasks such as job or school application materials, course assignments, and publication submissions.
I have a Master’s in Rhetoric from Carnegie Mellon University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Writing & Rhetoric, with coursework that specifically focused on grammar and style. My personal research interests and methodologies align more closely to discourse analysis and qualitative research.
Notably, I have worked on four full-length manuscripts of both non-fiction and fiction genres. I have provided feedback ranging from solely grammar and punctuation to overall content questions and concerns. I am comfortable using Microsoft Word’s Track Changes feature for documenting changes within a text, as well as using the comment feature to provide explanations, pose questions, suggest further changes, and so on.
In both my freelancing positions and my professional employment, I have edited articles for publication submissions, and familiar with different citation methods.
I also have a background in creative writing, Medical Writing and copywriting.
