Hello! My name is Sofia, I am 24 years old and I am a translator and language teacher by profession. It sounds a bit boring, until I mention the language combinations I hold in my hand: Russian, English, Japanese and Serbian.
I was born in Serbia, so Serbian is my mother tongue. However, I completed several years of elementary school in Russia, so the Russian language is like my second mother tongue. In addition, I graduated from the Philological High School in Belgrade, majoring in Russian (4 years), and I also won first place at the republican competition in the Russian language in a special category (which means I competed with Russians). During college, I worked at Api Bank in Belgrade as a translator from Russian.
I have been learning English since kindergarten. In the Philological High School, English is taught much more than in other schools. At university, my learning material was mostly in English. Finally, in the company I currently work for (Toyo Tires Serbia), I work as a translator from Japanese to English and vice versa.
Finally, I would like to explain why Japanese?
I could have continued with the Russian language at university, but I had several reasons why I wanted to learn the Japanese language.
First, I have been training in the Japanese martial art (Ninjutsu) since I was 15 years old. That's why I had a great desire to learn a little more about the history and culture of Japan, and about the language. In addition, while I was living in Russia, I started watching One piece - anime, which influenced many of my attitudes in life. I watched it for the first time in Russian, dubbed (that's how I learned Russian, I needed to learn as soon as possible because of school). The second time I watched One Piece, I watched it with English subtitles - to practice my English a bit (I was 14 years old). The third time I watched with the title in Serbian, to see how it looks in my language. However, my goal was to watch the entire anime in the original - without any translation!
Now I came to that stadium, so I'm rewatching One Piece, this time without translation!
My hobbies are sports and going to nature, running, riding, any type of activity that consumes energy, because I have too much of it!
I am currently preparing for my tour guide exam, so that I can put all the languages I speak into practice - showing people my country in their native language!
