As someone who had always excelled in languages and communication, I probably should have majored in English or Journalism in college. I chose science, though. I knew I was naturally talented in communications, and I wanted to prove to myself that the other side of my brain could perform just as well.
My science curriculum was significantly more writing-intensive than I had anticipated, which I enjoyed. Upon graduation, I worked for an environmental consulting firm, and somehow worked my way into the field of information systems. In this capacity, I performed a great deal of technical writing and writing of business documents.
At this point in my career, I am combining my love of learning with my talent for writing. Much of what I write requires a fair amount of research on topics with which I was previously unfamiliar, from chair caning to HVAC maintenance to running a fencing business. I have also recently reported on science news, which happens to be my favorite type of writing assignment.
Work Terms
Although I do occasionally work weekends, my typical hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., EST.
My preferred method of communication is initially via guru.com's messaging, then via email, Skype, and cell phone as needed.
