About

The development of new products to meet a specific market need and cost goal and at a specified development schedule.

While attending high school I worked a 40 hour per week as a machinist and a baker.
While attending college, I formed a construction company and designed and built residential homes and commercial buildings. My first position after college was as
Applications Engineer for a small electronic component manufacturer. I also filled the field position of Sales Manager and after telling the customer, "Don't tell me what you want, tell me what you are trying to do". The result was a 40% increase in annual sales the first year. I set up a six man model shop which reported to me so I was able to quote, construct, and deliver custom products to the customers in the field. a year later, I was raised to Engineering Manager. I developed a catalog of new products including a line of thermal coatings and adhesives. I also negotiated a contract with Bendix Semiconductor to re-package six million semi-conductors. The contract included substantial tooling and capital equipment such as wave soldering and custom production assembly equipment. The contract was completed on schedule and at the projected cost. After the introduction of a new corporate President, a major stock holder, I accepted a new position with a major
connector manufacturer that was formed in 1877. As Director of Engineering, I supervised a team of 35. My first mission was to determine what products had a future and what products should be encouraged to "retire". One design was great but it only had two customers who were not happy with reliability issues. I set up an engineering test lab and we were able to determine how to improve the reliability issues with improved manufacturing methods. I was reading Scientific American and discovered that they were planning on sponsoring a "Cross Country" race for electric cars in 1959, I suggested to the President that I was willing to design and build and electric car for the event. The result was the most advanced electric car to date as Electromotion Inc.
