Payment Methods

Cash Account

If your balance (or balance plus Loyalty Dollars) is sufficient, you have  the option to pay Guru Invoices and SafePay requests using your cash account funds.

To pay by cash account funds,

  1. On  the top navigation bar, click “Payments,” and select either “Manage Invoices” or Manage SafePay.”
  2. Select one or more invoices or SafePay requests to pay by clicking the associated checkboxes.
  3. Click the  “Pay” button.
  4. Enter your payment amount and click “Continue.”
  5. Select “Cash Account,” and click “Continue.”
  6. If you want to redeem Loyalty Dollars, enter the amount, and click  “Continue.”
  7. Click the checkbox to confirm that you agree with the statements about project work and payment recovery
  8. Review your transaction information and click “Submit Payment Now.”

Check or Money Order

To pay Guru Invoices and SafePay requests by check or money order,

  1. Write the invoice or SafePay ID on the check.
  2. Make the check payable to Guru.com.
  3. If you want to redeem Loyalty Dollars, write the Loyalty Dollar amount in the note or memo field of the check.
  4. Mail the check to:  Guru.com, Attn: Accounts Receivable 5001 Baum Blvd., Suite 760 Pittsburgh, PA 15213 USA

Note: If your bank does not honor your check, you will be charged a $35 return fee.

Please allow three to five business days for checks mailed within the U.S. and up to three weeks for checks mailed from outside the U.S. to arrive. Upon arrival, the check is deposited into Guru.com’s bank account where it is placed on a three-day hold. After the three-day hold is lifted, the funds are credited to the intended item – Guru Invoice, SafePay request or cash account.

If there is a delay, Guru.com may not have received your check in the mail or the funds are still on hold. Please contact the Guru.com support team for assistance.

Credit Card

To pay Guru Invoices and SafePay requests by credit card,

  1. On the top navigation bar, click “Payments,” and select either “Manage Invoices” or Manage SafePay.”
  2. Select the invoices or SafePay requests to pay by clicking the associated checkboxes.
  3. Click the “Pay” button.
  4. Enter your payment amount and click “Continue.”
  5. Select “Credit Card” and click “Continue.”
  6. If you want to redeem any Loyalty Dollars, enter the amount and click “Continue.”
  7. Enter the required credit card and billing information, and click “Continue.”
  8. Click the checkbox to confirm that you agree with the statements about project work and payment recovery.
  9. Review your transaction information and click “Submit Payment Now.”

The CVV Code

For security purposes, you will be asked to provide your credit cards CVV number.

CVV stands for Card Verification Value. CVV helps merchants verify that the customer using a credit or debit card has physical possession of the card. In addition, it verifies the authenticity of the card account. The CVV number typically consists of three or four digits and appears on the front or back of most cards. It is not part of the account number.

Visa and MasterCard — The CVV number is the last three digits listed in the signature area on the back of the card.

CVV - Visa CVV - MasterCard

American Express — The CVV number is listed above the credit card number on the front of the card.

CVV - Amex

E-check (U.S. bank accounts only)

Your e-check account must be registered and confirmed before using it to pay Guru Invoices and SafePay requests or to transfers funds into and out of your cash account.

Registering an E-check Account

You can register up to five e-check accounts with Guru.com. However, you can use the e-check account only after it is confirmed.

To register your e-check account,

  1. On the top navigation bar, click “Payments,” and click “Manage Payment Methods.”
  2. Select the “E-check” option from the drop down menu.
  3. Click the “Add Account” button.
  4. Follow the instructions to create your e-check account, then click the “Add Bank Account” button.
  5. Review the Terms and Conditions.
  6. Confirm your authorization by clicking the checkboxes, then click the “Authorize E-check Account” button.
  7. Click the “Start Confirmation” button to trigger the deposit of the account validation amounts.
  8. Click “Ok.”

After you submit your account information, Guru.com deposits two small, random amounts of $0.25 or less to your bank account for validation. Within three business days, check with your bank to obtain these two amounts.

Notes:

  • We cannot help you find the deposits. You must access your bank account to view them.
  • If the validation deposits have not appeared in your bank account after three business days, contact the Guru.com support team to resend the deposits.

Confirming an E-check Account

To confirm your e-check account,

  1. Find the two account validation deposits in your bank account.
  2. Return to the Guru.com website.
  3. On the top navigation bar, click “Payments,” and click “Manage Payment Methods.”
  4. Select the e-check account you want to confirm.
  5. Click the “Confirm” button.
  6. Enter the two deposit amounts from Guru.com and click the “Confirm Account” button. Be sure to enter the amounts as .XX. For example, five cents would be entered as “.05″.

Note: If you enter the amounts incorrectly three times, your e-check account will be locked. Contact Guru.com for assistance.

Checking the Status of Your E-check Account

To check the status of your e-check account, click “Payments,” in the top navigation bar. Then click “Manage Payment Methods.”

The status will be listed in the right-most column and will be one of the following.

E-check Status Definition
Processing We have received your e-check account information but have not yet made the two small deposits to your bank account. The deposit processing date shown is the approximate date, subject to holiday schedules, that Guru.com will deposit the account validation amounts. The deposited amounts will appear in your bank account two business days from the deposit processing date.
Not Confirmed The two small deposits for account validation have been made to your bank account, but your e-check account has not yet been confirmed. You must return to the “Manage Payment Methods” page to confirm your e-check account.
Not Confirmed – LOCKED You have three chances to enter the correct e-check confirmation amounts. If you enter the amounts incorrectly three times, your account will be locked. If your e-check account is “LOCKED,” please contact us for assistance.
Confirmed Your e-check account is authorized for use. You can select “E-check” as your payment method for Guru Invoices and SafePay requests and to transfer funds to and from your cash account.
Disabled You cannot use a disabled e-check account to pay invoices and SafePay requests or transfer funds to and from your cash account.

Paying by E-check

To pay Guru Invoices and SafePay requests by e-check,

  1. On the top navigation bar, click “Payments,” and select either “Manage Invoices” or Manage SafePay.”
  2. Select the invoices or SafePay requests to pay by clicking the associated checkboxes.
  3. Click the “Pay” button.
  4. Enter your payment amount and click the “Continue” button.
  5. Select an e-check account and click the “Continue” button.
  6. If you want to redeem any Loyalty Dollars, enter the amount and click the “Continue” button.
  7. Click the checkbox to confirm that you agree with the statements about project work and payment recovery.
  8. Review your transaction information and click the “Submit Payment Now” button.

Removing an E-check Account

To remove an e-check account,

  1. On the top navigation bar, click “Payments,” and click “Manage Payment Methods.”
  2. Select the account you want to remove, and click the “Delete” button.
  3. Click “OK” to confirm.

Note: If you have scheduled a transfer from your cash account using e-check, and you delete the e-check account, your transfer will be canceled. Please reschedule your transfer using a different payment method.

Loyalty Dollars

You earn free money back and a chance to win $100 in Loyalty Dollars every time you pay a Guru Invoice or SafePay request by check, e-check, wire transfer, or cash account funds. (With SafePay, you earn the Loyalty Dollars when the Freelancer is paid.)

When you’re ready, you can apply all or part of your accumulated Loyalty Dollars to your Guru Invoice or SafePay request.

To pay with Loyalty Dollars,

  1. On the top navigation bar, click “Payments,” and select either “Manage Invoices” or Manage SafePay.”
  2. Select one or more invoices or SafePay requests to pay by clicking the associated checkboxes.
  3. Click the “Pay” button.
  4. Select your payment amount option and click “Continue.”
  5. Select your payment method. Depending on your Loyalty Dollar balance, you may be able to make the payment in its entirety with Loyalty Dollars. If not, select your primary payment method and click “Continue.”
  6. Follow the instructions to complete your payment. You’ll be able to indicate how much of your LD balance you want to use at the top of the next page.

Note: When paying by check or wire transfer, simply note how much of your LD balance you would like to use in conjunction with your check or wire transfer.

PayPal

While your PayPal account does not have to be registered with us to pay Guru Invoices and SafePay requests, it must be registered and confirmed before using it to transfer funds out of your cash account.

Paying Guru Invoices and SafePay Requests

To pay Guru Invoices and SafePay requests by PayPal,

  1. On the top navigation bar, click “Payments,” and select either “Manage Invoices” or Manage SafePay.”
  2. Select one or more invoices or SafePay requests to pay by clicking the associated checkboxes.
  3. Click the “Pay” button.
  4. Enter your payment amount and click the “Continue” button.
  5. Select the “PayPal” radio button and click the “Continue” button.
  6. If you want to redeem any Loyalty Dollars, enter the amount and click the “Continue” button.
  7. Click the checkbox to confirm that you agree with the statements about project work and payment recovery.
  8. Click the “PayPal Payments” button.
  9. Sign in to your PayPal account.
  10. Click the “Pay Now” button.

You will automatically be returned to Guru.com.

Note: PayPal payments funded with a bank account or transactions that are investigated by PayPal may be delayed by up to three business days while the payment clears or while PayPal completes their investigation.

Transfering Funds Out of Your Cash Account

To transfer funds out of your cash account to your PayPal account, you must first register and confirm your PayPal address.

To register your PayPal account,

  1. On the top navigation bar, click “Payments,” and click “Manage Payment Methods.”
  2. Select “PayPal” from the drop-down menu.
  3. Click the “Add Account” button.
  4. Follow the instructions to register your PayPal account.

After you submit your account information, we will email you a PayPal confirmation code for account validation.

To confirm your PayPal account,

  1. Find the confirmation code in an email from Guru.com.
  2. Return to the Guru.com website.
  3. On the top navigation bar, click “Payments,” and click “Manage Payment Methods.”
  4. Select the PayPal account you want to confirm.
  5. Click the “Confirm” button.
  6. Follow the instructions to enter your confirmation code.

As soon as you enter your confirmation code, your PayPal account will be confirmed and you can transfer funds from your Guru.com cash account to your PayPal account.

To check the status of your PayPal account, click “Payments,” in the top navigation bar. Then click “Manage Payment Methods.” The status will be listed in the right most column and will be one of the following.

PayPal Status Definition
Not Confirmed You have not yet confirmed your account.
Not Confirmed – LOCKED You have three chances to enter the correct PayPal confirmation code. If you enter the code incorrectly three times, your account will be locked. If your PayPal account is “LOCKED,” please contact us for assistance.
Confirmed Your PayPal account is authorized for use. You may select “PayPal” as your Payment Method when transferring funds from your cash account.
Disabled You cannot use a disabled PayPal account to pay Guru Invoices and SafePay requests or transfer funds from your cash account.

Removing a PayPal Account

To remove a PayPal account,

  1. On the top navigation bar, click “Payments,” and click “Manage Payment Methods.”
  2. Select the PayPal account you want to delete.
  3. Click “Delete.”

Note: If you have scheduled a transfer from your cash account via PayPal and you delete the PayPal account, your transfer will be canceled. Please reschedule your transfer using a different payment method.

Wire Transfer

The cost per wire transfer depends on the origin of the funds:

  • $20 USD if funds are wired from a bank outside of the U.S.
  • $10 USD if funds are wired from a bank within the U.S.

When determining the amount due, remember to check with your bank to determine their fees, the fees of any intermediary banks through which the funds may pass and any currency conversion fees. Also, be sure to subtract any Loyalty Dollars you want to redeem.

Note: Some banks charge their own additional fees for wire transfers. Ask your bank about any currency conversion, transfer or intermediary fees to account for them when funding your wire transfers.
Reference area: List the Invoice ID, SafePay ID, or your billing code as well as the total amount of Loyalty Dollars you would like to use.

Note: Please allow up to five business days for Guru.com to receive and process a wire transfer payment. You will receive an email when your payment arrives.
