Shahira Kamal Custom specializes in custom outerwear, technical garments, and motorcycle apparel, as well as performs technical design and patternmaking services for the apparel industry. I love the technical design/patternmaking phase most of all, because it bridges conceptualization and construction, as 2D concepts are translated into 3Drealities. I especially love the technical demands of motorcycle apparel, and am learning all I can about their materials and construction as I transition towards making custom moto garments. It’s not just about riding fast and looking hot. I’m determined riders will feel safe and comfortable in my garments. Short of crash-testing the clothing myself, I’m exploring the processes to test for seam strength, abrasion resistance, and puncture resistance with UK testing facility SATRA, in accordance with the CE EN 13595 personal protective equipment (PPE) safety standards.
