I have an innate sense of grammar and sentence structure. I can edit with just a scan of a page and often find myself proofing the oddest things, such as a hospital poster (there were three typos in it). I edit for syntax, continuity, and things that just plain don't make sense. I will catch it if your characters have blue eyes in one scene and green in another. I know that women have blonde hair and men are blond. I know an apartment in America is a flat in the UK.
