Proofreading, Writing & Editing

I can help you proofread and find those annoying grammatical mistakes that have become invisible after the tenth time you've scanned the page. Oh? Writer's block? Hmm... that one's bad. Let's talk about where you want to go with your writing and get you there. I like to think of myself as inspired and articulated. I've got layers, I promise! I've got both business and medical backgrounds, fluent in the cooking and baking language, and a fantasy and romance enthusiast. If you feel we might be a match, it's probably because we are. Let's talk soon!

  1. Proofreading:

There are a number of proofreading software out there, but having another carbon-based organism with you is always better. How so? I'm a fast reader. If I'm taking a longer time reading through a page, then in my experience, something's wrong there. It might be the order in which the objects or events are presented, perhaps the vocabulary got convoluted and can be thinned down to simplify the thought, or even, it may be lacking description and is in desperate need of more adjectives.

When I read through a story, I have a list of musts that I'm looking for. The chapter must add to the story in multiple ways, these are a few: Is the story progressing within this chapter? Am I building or destroying the relationships between characters properly? Is the room and clothes important, and have I described them? Do my readers know what my characters look like or have I been assuming they are all white unless I describe them differently?

2. Editing:

After proofreading, I might have some suggestions. I'm not here to change everything about your piece, but as a writer, I understand that sometimes we are under the false impression that we've done a great job describing or relating a story that's inside our minds. It takes someone else to truly ascertain whether or not we've done a good job telling the story, since they don't carry the mental image we do of what is happening in the narrative. If we fail to form a well-built story in their minds, then the story is still lacking. I can formulate questions when a certain script isn't clear enough, give you notes on the moments I lost track of what was happening within the story, or discuss whether a part of the narrative was slowing the story down or progressing it.

3. Writing

I can write stories from scratch or help you progress your story if you've encountered writer's block. For new writings or stories, I usually require a theme or genre, and that's it! However, the more details I get, the more likely I'll be able to write something you've already envisioned. For example, if you'd like a short story, about a doctor, who's a neurosurgeon, who's conceited and rude, whom you want to fall in love with the smoking flower girl, who makes the hospital's flower arrangements on the first-floor pharmacy, who's equally rude, and drives a red Fiat, then feel free to pass along your plot and character profiles. I'll definitely be able to use them.
