About

IT Strategy, Management and Architecture

The unique value I offer is that of a multi-disciplined professional who can look at a problem from multiple strategic and tactical perspectives and be a bridge between them:

• SDLC Leader - I am referring to the "how" rather than the "what" of software development. I believe in a disciplined, well-documented architecture and application design, albeit one that is lean enough to fit into an Agile, rapid development environment. The software must then be built in a consistent, repeatable way -- well tested, consistent with the design and the organization's development standards.
• Application / Data Architect - I am experienced in software design, including the development of the data model that underlies the application itself. Robust and careful consideration is given to the "ilities" -- scalability, maintainability, recoverability, usability, entensibility and of course, security.
• Project Manager - It's crucial not only to produce quality software that meets the business need, but also to do so in a predictable, manageable way that can be reliably tracked. I have my PMP and Scrum Master certifications and work to apply those principles on a daily basis.
• Functional Manager - I am also knowledgeable about the operational needs of software, including the need for good auditing, logging and tracing. I believe strongly in developing my staff's technical skills to be both broad and deep in targeted technologies.
• Consultant - I always try to wear my consultant hat. To me, this means a deep dive into the business model and requirements to gain a complete understanding of the underlying factors driving any system development, and ultimately creating a trusted advisor relationship with my employer.

I have many years of experience with mission critical applications in all these roles for Fortune-100 companies, much of it in heavily regulated environments. I'm comfortable with multiple compliance and regulatory standards: PCI, HIPAA, SSAE 16, and DOT regulations.
