Overview:

We're seeking a skilled visual artist or graphic designer who understands the art of optical illusions — how shadow, shape, contrast, and perspective can fool the eye and engage the mind. Your task? Help us create image-based puzzles that humans can solve, but bots cannot.

The Problem:

Today, more than 30% of online surveys are compromised by bots. These bots skew data, destroy the reliability of primary research, and undermine business decisions. We're fighting back with perceptual puzzles that only real humans can understand and respond to correctly — by using their brains, not just pixels.

What You’ll Do:

  • Modify or create static images that contain intentional distortions — things like:

    • False perspective (e.g., Shepard’s Tables, Penrose stairs)

    • Contradictory shadows or lighting

    • Shape or object illusions (e.g., hidden figures, impossible geometry)

    • Texture or color manipulations that trigger misrecognition

  • Ensure that one part of the image draws a human to select it as the answer — even if it's technically incorrect — because of how the brain interprets the illusion.

  • Make bots fail, by giving them “logical” or “literal” options that aren’t the ones humans instinctively choose.

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience in illustration, digital art, or visual design

  • Understanding of how humans perceive depth, shapes, and visual tricks

  • Familiarity with visual illusion techniques (e.g., Troxler effect, Mach bands, figure-ground reversals, etc.)

  • Creative, playful mindset with a serious purpose: keeping bots out of our data

Bonus Points If You:

  • Have worked on puzzles, games, or human-centric visual tests

  • Have an interest in psychology, neuroscience, or UX design

  • Can share past work involving visual trickery or perceptual art

Why This Matters:

We’re building a new security layer for online surveys — one that works like a CAPTCHA, but smarter. By enabling humans to think critically and identify patterns, and allowing bots to fail quietly in the background, we safeguard the quality of research that informs business strategy.

To Apply:

If you're fascinated by what the mind thinks it sees — and you know how to craft that illusion — we want to hear from you. Send samples, links, or notes about your experience and your interest in this type of work.
