Job Title:
Field Technician for Smart Livestock Devices (Part-Time / Project-Based)
Describe the Job in Detail:
We are looking for a reliable and hands-on Field Technician who can support our on-site deployment and troubleshooting of smart livestock devices (hardware + software) at pig farms in Indiana, Illinois, or Iowa.
Our company develops and delivers AI-powered camera systems and software tools for livestock operations. These devices are installed on-site at livestock farms, and your role will be to serve as our local, on-call field technician, providing installation, troubleshooting, and basic support in collaboration with our remote engineering team.
You will be our first point of contact on-site during project deployments and occasionally support farmers with basic technical issues. All guidance and deeper technical matters will be supported by our engineering team remotely via phone, chat, or video call.
This is a part-time, freelance/contract role with variable work volume:
Some weeks will be busy (due to field deployments or testing), while others may be inactive.
Individual projects may last a single day, or sometimes span a full week.
If engagement becomes regular, we may arrange for ~8 hours/week (1 day/week) on a recurring basis.
Expected Deliverables:
Perform on-site installation and setup of hardware and software (cameras, edge devices, connectivity).
Conduct basic troubleshooting (e.g., connectivity, calibration, device resets).
Communicate effectively with our remote engineering team to follow procedures or escalate issues.
Assist in light end-user training for farm staff (how to use the app or basic functionality).
Submit short field reports or checklists after each visit.
Support basic tasks such as device relocation, sensor cleaning, or data upload assistance.
Requirements:
Based in Indiana, Illinois, or Iowa with access to transportation.
Comfortable working in livestock farming environments (e.g., pig barns).
Some technical background – familiarity with hardware, software, or networking is sufficient.
Able to work with remote engineers and follow step-by-step procedures.
Strong communication skills (in English).
Reliable, detail-oriented, and proactive.
Ability to lift devices (10–15 lbs) and do light physical setup.
Must have a valid driver’s license and smartphone.
Nice to Have (but not required):
Experience with tech support, field work, or agri-tech
Knowledge of Bluetooth/Wi-Fi connectivity, IP cameras, or Android
Spanish or Japanese language skills are a plus
Time Frame & Engagement:
Project-based / As-needed: Frequency of work will depend on deployment schedules.
Typical engagements range from 1 day to 1 week, with occasional follow-up visits.
For ongoing support, we may establish a ~8 hours/week (1 day/week) recurring arrangement.
Flexibility is required, but we will give notice ahead of any scheduled work.
Travel costs reimbursed. Hourly or daily rate negotiable.
Please submit your quote (hourly or daily rate) along with a short description of your experience. We’re especially interested in individuals who are practical, responsive, and willing to work on-site with minimal oversight.
