Unit and lesson design

The unit and lesson structure will follow an inquiry-based model, adapted to meet the test-focused nature of GED preparation.

  • Inquiry-based structure: Each unit, centered around a real-world driving question, will guide students through concepts and skills required for the GED test.
  • ATL-style skills: Thinking, research, and communication skills will be integrated into every unit, with rubrics designed to evaluate not just content mastery but also these transferable skills.

Assessment system

The assessment approach will balance test-readiness with authentic, project-based learning.

  • Continuous assessment: Frequent formative assessments, like interactive quizzes and reflection prompts, will prepare students for the test while offering continuous feedback.
  • Performance tasks: Summative assessments for each unit will be project-based, requiring students to apply their knowledge to a real-world problem. Rubrics will align with both GED competencies and IB-inspired descriptors.
  • Digital projects: But we will offer students choices in their projects.

Student experience design

The curriculum should be built on a foundation of students’ engagement, using multimedia and active learning to create an interactive experience.

  • Multimedia engagement: Lessons will combine text with dynamic visuals, including custom videos, animated simulations, and curated multimedia content.
  • Interactive components: The curriculum will incorporate built-in discussions, collaborative online workspaces, and gamified elements to reward milestones and motivate learners.
  • Live sessions: Optional, interactive live sessions will connect students with instructors and peers, offering a human touch to the online experience.
  • Focus on autonomy: Adaptive learning paths will be available to help students with skills they need the most, reinforcing the autonomous learning style crucial for adult learners.
  • Capstone Recognition System – digital badges, certificates, and portfolio showcase for innovation and impact.

Cultural and global integration

The curriculum will be culturally relevant and globally minded.

  • African and global contexts: Use case studies from Africa and other global contexts in Social Studies, Science, and the electives ( We can design these later)  to make the content relatable and relevant.
  • Multilingual foundation: The curriculum will be designed with future multilingual adaptation in mind, with clear structure and content that can be translated.
  • Emphasize ethics, innovation, and global citizenship across all subjects
