Summary
In this freelance role, you will be responsible for providing high-quality Mandarin-to-English translation for various video content. Your primary focus will be on accurately translating and creating English subtitles from Mandarin source material, ensuring linguistic accuracy, cultural appropriateness, and adherence to specific client guidelines. 


Responsibilities

Translation: Translate Mandarin Chinese dialogue and on-screen text from video content into clear, accurate, and natural-sounding English subtitles.
Quality Assurance: Review and proofread your own work and, occasionally, that of other translators for errors in translation accuracy, readability, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Cultural Adaptation: Ensure translations are culturally appropriate and maintain the original intent and tone of the source material.
Adherence to Guidelines: Follow specific client style guides and technical specifications for timing and formatting.
Terminology: Maintain consistency in terminology throughout the film or series, especially for key names and phrases (KNP).
Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, proofreaders, and co-translators to address any questions, discrepancies, or issues that arise during the subtitle creation or conformance process. Maintain open communication lines for urgent concerns.
Deadlines: Manage time effectively to meet project deadlines and maintain high-quality standards consistently.
Accountability: Take ownership of any errors by identifying their root cause, developing corrective actions, and implementing them to prevent future mistakes.

Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in Audiovisual Translation, Linguistics, Communications, or a related field is preferred.
Experience: At least 1 year of professional experience in Mandarin-to-English translation, with a focus on subtitling.
Language Proficiency: Native or near-native fluency in Mandarin Chinese and exceptional writing skills in English.
Attention to Detail: Excellent attention to detail and the ability to identify and correct linguistic and technical errors.
Technical Skills: Familiarity with subtitling software OOONA is highly desirable.
Work Ethic: Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and deliver high-quality work under pressure.
Setup: Must own a personal computer and have a stable, high-speed internet connection. Equipment must be compatible with Google Chrome and able to run it without issues.
