Job Description:


We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Media Rights & Business Development Specialist to spearhead efforts in licensing and securing investments for a groundbreaking investigative news story on Hacker News This role involves engaging with high-profile news agencies, investors, and media organizations to negotiate rights, establish strategic partnerships, and maximize the story’s reach and impact.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Identify and Outreach: Research and target potential buyers, such as major news agencies, investigative journalism platforms, and high-tech media outlets, capable of understanding and valuing the story's significance.
  • Pitch & Negotiation: Present the story’s value proposition, emphasizing its credibility (hosted on Hacker News), impact potential, and the estimated $100 billion in systemic fraud. Negotiate licensing or rights purchase agreements.
  • Market Analysis: Analyze market demand for high-impact investigative stories, especially those involving government misconduct and systemic fraud, to optimize pricing strategies.
  • Relationship Management: Build and maintain relationships with media executives, investors, and legal advisors to facilitate smooth negotiations.
  • Legal & Contractual Coordination: Collaborate with legal professionals to draft, review, and finalize licensing agreements, confidentiality clauses, and rights transfer contracts.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute a strategic plan to maximize the story’s exposure, revenue, and impact while protecting your rights and interests.


Qualifications:


  • Proven experience in media rights sales, licensing, or business development (preferably in journalism, media, or intellectual property).
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze market value and craft compelling pitches.
  • Knowledge of investigative journalism, media law, or related fields is a plus.
  • Self-motivated with excellent networking abilities.
  • Familiarity with high-impact news stories, investigative reporting, or cybersecurity topics is advantageous.


Compensation:
