Looking for a mid-century modern tile design for a small closed-stall commercial bathroom. The stall consists of three tiled walls (two sides and one back wall). The front is a door, which will not be tiled.

Dimensions:

    • Back wall: 3 feet (91 cm) wide x 4.5 feet (137 cm) high

    • Each side wall: 5 feet (152cm) wide x 4.5 feet (137 cm) high

    • Tile size: 4" x 4" only

      Design Requirements:

    • Mid-century modern style (geometric, bold, playful).

    • Only solid-color tiles (no patterns, gradients, or printed designs).

    • Use colors that are commonly available from suppliers like Daltile or Home Depot

    • Acceptable motifs: arrows, energetic lines, offset grids, geometric repetition.

    • Should be fun and energetic; can evoke nostalgia as well

    • Design must be achievable with standard tile availability (no custom orders).

    • Consistency across walls, with optional directional variation for energy.

    • Should be FUN

Color Guidance:

  • Keep it firmly mid-century modern—think avocado green, mustard yellow, burnt orange, turquoise, off-white, or charcoal

  • Bright palettes may also be explored, such as tangerine orange + teal + white, or turquoise + lemon yellow + gray accents.

  • Muted versions of these colors are fine too, as long as the overall look stays lively and era-appropriate

  • There are many other colors and limited tile choices so use your creativity - the above color list is not the only colors you can use (for example could be a sputnik/atomic motif that's painted, or an abstract design etc)

Don’ts:

  • No gradients.

  • No printed/patterned tiles.

  • No rare or hard-to-source colors.

  • No other tile sizes.

  • Don't want a 50's look

IMPORTANT NOTES

1. The attached file shows a rough 3d view of the stall (but there won't be glass doors :)

as you are looking at the toilet, you'd be designing the left wall, rear wall, and right wall

2. The area above the tile to the ceiling (from 4.5 feet (137 cm) to 7 feet (213 cm) will be painted, and we have not designed it, but obviously it could be painted with designs, images, anything, really, that extends the design in the tile. The paint design isn't part of this project, but you can keep that in mind if helpful.

3. Some amount of tile cutting is acceptable to achieve a fun design, for example there might be a diagonal accent, a star or diamond The main consideration with cuts is that they be straight cuts

Deliverables

  1. Renderings or sketches of the completed stall from multiple perspectives:

    1. Face-on view of each wall (back wall, left wall, right wall).

    2. 3D perspective of the entire stall.

  2. Clear color references with suggested Daltile, Home Depot (or equivalent) product codes/names.

  3. Diagrams showing how the 4"x4" tiles align - can be simple
