Project Title: Design and Fabrication of 60kV Nanosecond Solid-State Marx Generator System

Project Overview

Seeking a skilled electronics engineer or PCB designer to deliver a complete solid-state Marx generator system capable of producing high-voltage pulses up to 60 kV with nanosecond pulse width, powered from a 12 VDC source. The solution must include both power conditioning and Marx pulser modules, suitable for integration into industrial and scientific applications where precise, fast HV pulses are required.

Scope of Work

  • 12 VDC to High Voltage Power Supply
    • Design a compact, efficient circuit that converts 12 VDC to a stable, regulated high-voltage DC output (suitable for Marx charger).
    • The circuit must incorporate all required isolation, safety, and regulation features, with board-level implementation.
  • Solid-State Marx Generator Module
    • Design a ladder network (PCBA) using appropriate solid-state switching devices (e.g., MOSFET, BJT in avalanche mode, or IGBT) capable of stacking and discharging capacitors in series to achieve 60kV output.
    • Achieve pulse widths in the nanosecond range (sub-20 ns typical; specify achievable duration).
    • Include robust triggering electronics for reliable, repeatable fast pulse operation; consider optically isolated, microcontroller-based, or TTL/Oscillator triggers.
    • Ensure suitable high-voltage insulation, stray impedance management, and compact PCB layout.

Required Deliverables

  • Two fully assembled and tested board-level circuits:
    1. 12 VDC-to-high-voltage DC power supply
    2. Solid-state Marx generator ladder network for 60kV nanosecond pulse generation
  • Complete PCB layouts and schematic diagrams for both circuits (Gerber, BOM, native design files)
  • Assembly, testing, and verification procedures, with electrical measurement confirming pulse amplitude, pulse width, and repetition rate.
  • Integration and safety recommendations for laboratory/industrial use.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Prior experience with high-voltage pulse power systems, Marx generator design, or nanosecond pulsed PCB development
  • Competence in board-level design, component selection, insulation, and test/validation in high-voltage environments
  • Ability to deliver populated boards and provide technical documentation for manufacturing and assembly

Respond with your experience in high-voltage circuit projects, approach to the design challenges, estimated timeline, and any clarifying questions regarding technical parameters.
