Systems Engineer (Battery Storage & Hybrid Power Design)

Part-Time • Remote • Contract (Hourly) | NEX Energy

About NEX Energy

NEX Energy is a global energy-solutions company developing advanced graphene battery energy storage systems (BESS) and hybrid renewable projects that power resilient, sustainable infrastructure. Our containerized BESS platforms integrate solar, grid, gas turbine, and other energy sources to deliver cost-efficient, low-carbon, and high-reliability power worldwide.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Energy Systems Engineer to support system-level design, modeling, and optimization of hybrid power projects integrating battery storage, renewables, grid, and other generation assets.

The role involves creating system design specifications, technical schematics, bill of materials (BOMs), and performance/financial analyses (ROI, LCOS, load-shaving impact).

This is a part-time remote contract role with flexible hours and potential to transition to full-time as our global project pipeline expands.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop hybrid system designs integrating battery storage, solar PV, grid, diesel/gas turbines, or other generation assets.
  • Size and configure BESS systems (power, energy, C-rate, inverter pairing, DoD, cycle life) to meet project load and autonomy requirements.
  • Produce single-line diagrams (SLDs), electrical schematics, connection layouts, and complete BOMs for proposal packages.
  • Conduct technical and economic modeling including:
    • Peak-shaving and load-shifting simulations
    • LCOS analysis
    • ROI and payback modeling
    • Energy dispatch optimization
  • Simulate renewable hybrid performance under various load and tariff conditions.
  • Support preparation of client proposals, engineering packages, and feasibility reports.
  • Interface with internal project leads and vendors to validate component selections (inverters, PCS, transformers, PV arrays, EMS).
  • Stay current with industry standards, safety codes, and energy-storage technologies.

Preferred Tools & Software

Preferred Tools & Software (Nice to Have)

Candidates do not need experience with all these platforms but should be familiar with at least some tools used in system design and power layout drafting.

  • AutoCAD Electrical / EPLAN / SolidWorks Electrical – for schematics, wiring, and single-line drawings

  • PVSyst / Helioscope / PV*SOL – for PV sizing and yield estimation

  • HOMER Pro / HOMER Grid – for hybrid energy optimization (battery + renewable)

  • ETAP / DIgSILENT PowerFactory / EasyPower – for power flow and grid integration analysis

  • MS Excel / Python / MATLAB – for performance or financial modeling (ROI, LCOS)

Training or strong aptitude in similar electrical design or modeling tools is acceptable.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems Engineering, or related field preffered.
  • Experience in BESS or hybrid renewable system design a plus
  • Knowledge of lithium-ion and advanced chemistries (graphene super-capacitors or solid-state a plus).
  • Understanding of power electronics, inverters/PCS, and EMS/SCADA systems.
  • Ability to prepare complete system sizing, drawings, and techno-economic analyses independently.
  • Excellent written and spoken English for technical documentation and client interaction.
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working remotely across international teams.

Engagement Details

  • Type: Freelance / Contract (Hourly)
  • Hours: ~10–20 hrs/week to start; potential for full-time based on project volume.
  • Location: Fully remote (open globally, English required).
  • Compensation: Competitive hourly rate based on experience and portfolio.

Why Join NEX Energy

  • Contribute to cutting-edge battery and hybrid energy projects across emerging and developed markets.
  • Work with next-generation technologies including graphene hybrid super-capacitor systems.
  • Collaborate with an agile, international team shaping the future of long-duration and sustainable energy storage.
