Our clients' business operations are significantly impacted by policy changes, regulatory shifts, and strategic decisions made within key U.S. government departments. We require highly specialized expertise to monitor, analyze, and report on these developments accurately and in a timely manner.

The Role:

We are seeking expert freelance research writers with proven, real-world experience working within or closely alongside the U.S. Departments of Defense (DoD), Justice (DoJ), and/or Commerce.

Your primary responsibility will be to produce concise, high-impact research reports that interpret complex government activities, policy announcements, and regulatory changes, and translate them into actionable strategic insights for our clients.

This is a project-by-project contract position with the potential for a long-term, ongoing relationship based on performance and fit.

Key Responsibilities:

Monitoring & Analysis: Continuously track news, public records, and official announcements related to the DoD, DoJ, and the Department of Commerce.

Research & Writing: Conduct deep-dive research and write clear, concise reports (typically 5-15 pages, depending on the topic) analyzing specific policies, regulatory changes, or strategic shifts.

Insight Generation: Identify the potential business implications and strategic risks/opportunities of U.S. government actions for our clients in the specified industries (trade, energy, commodities, finance).

Quality Control: Ensure all reports are meticulously researched, professionally written, free of plagiarism, and delivered on time according to agreed-upon deadlines and project scopes.

Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all project details, client information, and reports produced.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

Mandatory: Demonstrable, direct experience working in a substantive role within the U.S. Department of Defense, Department of Justice, and/or Department of Commerce (e.g., policy analyst, intelligence analyst, regulatory affairs, trade specialist, legal counsel, procurement specialist). Please detail your relevant government experience in your application.

Expertise: Deep understanding of the inner workings, decision-making processes, public information channels, and strategic priorities of these departments.

Writing Skills: Exceptional written communication skills with the ability to synthesize complex geopolitical/regulatory information into clear, professional business reports.

Industry Knowledge (Plus): Prior experience in consulting, business analysis, or strategic reporting for the private sector, particularly in energy, finance, or trade sectors, is highly advantageous.

Availability: Ability to respond promptly to new project requests and adhere to tight deadlines as government news breaks.

Professionalism: High degree of integrity, professionalism, and discretion.

Compensation:

Payment will be negotiated and paid on a project-by-project basis, commensurate with the complexity and urgency of each report. We are seeking top-tier expertise and are prepared to compensate accordingly.
