Oil & Gas Subsea Survey Engineering – Technical Procedures, Method Statements and Survey Documentation

I am looking for an experienced technical writer or subsea survey professional to develop high-quality technical documentation for Oil & Gas subsea engineering and marine survey activities.

The required documentation shall be written in professional UK English and shall be suitable as a technical reference for developing project-specific Survey Procedures, Method Statements, Task Plans, Calibration Procedures and Survey Reports for offshore, nearshore and deepwater SURF projects

The content shall reflect industry best practice and be aligned, where applicable, with recognised standards and guidelines such as IMCA guidance, IOGP geomatics guidance, IHO standards, DNV recommendations, ISO/API subsea practices and general Oil & Gas industry requirements.

The final document must be practical, technically sound and structured in a way that can support the preparation of survey procedures for major international Oil & Gas operators and contractors such as Shell, Equinor, BP, ExxonMobil, Saipem, Subsea7 and similar organisations.

Required Scope of Work

The document shall include technical content, methodology, operational considerations, equipment requirements, quality control checks, acceptance criteria and deliverables for the following survey and subsea engineering activities:

Dimensional Control and Survey Equipment Calibration

  • Dimensional Control, including 2D and 3D methods
  • General survey equipment calibration requirements
  • USBL calibration
  • MBES patch test for towed, pole-mounted and ROV-mounted systems
  • Side Scan Sonar calibration for towed and ROV-mounted systems
  • Sub-Bottom Profiler calibration for towed and ROV-mounted systems
  • Pipe Tracker calibration for towed and ROV-mounted systems
  • LBL Positioning and Acoustic Systems
  • Sonardyne LBL deployment methodology
  • LBL calibration and baseline measurement procedures
  • LBL array design and development
  • Selection of appropriate transponder layout and BOX-IN geometry
  • LBL array analysis, redundancy, line-of-sight considerations and accuracy assessment
  • Integration of LBL with USBL, INS, ROV navigation and surface positioning systems
  • Survey Activities for SURF and Offshore Construction Projects
  • Pre-lay survey activities for shallow water and deepwater environments
  • As-laid survey activities for pipelines, flowlines, umbilicals and cables
  • As-built survey activities for subsea structures, pipelines and cable systems
  • Geophysical survey activities
  • Visual inspection and ROV survey support
  • Pipe lay touchdown monitoring
  • Cable lay touchdown monitoring
  • FPSO positioning and relative positioning support
  • FPSO topside 3D laser scanning
  • Subsea Metrology
  • Subsea metrology for risers, jumpers, spools, manifolds, PLETs, ILTs, FTAs and other subsea structures
  • LBL-based subsea metrology
  • LiDAR-based subsea metrology
  • Photogrammetry-based metrology
  • Vertical riser metrology using LBL, USBL, taut wire, LiDAR and photogrammetry
  • Comparison of available methods, limitations, risks and recommended applications
  • Deliverables, Reporting and Task Planning

For each activity, the document shall describe the expected survey deliverables, including but not limited to:

  • Survey reports
  • Calibration reports
  • Task plans
  • Event logs
  • DTM and gridded seabed data
  • CAD drawings
  • GIS files
  • Charts and alignment sheets
  • Video and still image logs
  • Navigation files
  • As-laid and as-built data packages
  • Final survey data books

The document shall also include typical timing calculations and operational duration estimates for key activities such as LBL deployment, LBL calibration, USBL calibration, MBES survey, SSS survey, pipe tracker survey, subsea metrology and final reporting.

Required Document Structure

At the beginning of the document, please include:

  • A 1–2 paragraph executive summary explaining the purpose of the document
  • 12–15 bullet points summarising the main topics covered
  • A clear table of contents / index
  • Logical sections and subsections
  • Tables, checklists and structured task plans where appropriate

The main goal is to produce a document that can be used as a practical technical reference for developing survey procedures and method statements for nearshore, offshore and deepwater Oil & Gas survey activities.

Quality Requirements

The content must be:

  • Technically accurate
  • Written in professional UK English
  • Suitable for Oil & Gas / subsea engineering documentation
  • Original and unique
  • Practical, not generic
  • Free from filler, fluff or irrelevant text
  • Structured like professional project documentation
  • Aligned with recognised industry practice
  • Clear enough to support the preparation of project-specific procedures

Please do not submit copied, recycled or generic internet content. The work must be written with proper technical understanding and must be suitable for professional review

I’m only looking for unique content, meaning nothing that you turn in should be lack in information or just copy and paste without sense.

The document must demonstrate real technical understanding of offshore survey operations and shall not be a generic AI-generated overview or a compilation of copied material.

no Fluff! No Filler!

When bidding so that I know that you actually took the time to read this post and are not bindly bidding please mention the words “life is life La la la la la!”

Formatting Requirements

The final deliverable shall be provided in Microsoft Word format and shall follow these formatting requirements:

  • Font: Times New Roman
  • Font size: 12
  • Single spacing
  • Margins: maximum 0.5 inch on all sides
  • Professional headings and subheadings
  • Consistent numbering system
  • Editable Word format
  • Table of contents included

Ownership and Rights

Upon full payment, all rights to the completed work shall be transferred to me, including copyright, editing rights, resale rights and byline rights.

The final document shall be structured in a way that a Survey Manager, Project Surveyor or Offshore Survey Representative could use it as a basis for preparing project-specific procedures.

The document should include tables summarising equipment requirements, task sequences, deliverables, estimated durations and QC acceptance checks for each survey activity.

Finished report must be in Word document

I will own all of the rights to the completed work once you are fully paid, including but not limited to resale rights, byline rights and copyright.

I actually need several of these types of procedure and reports, so if the quality of your work is great and your prices and turn-around time are fair we will hire you for all or many more of our projects.

I’m looking to pay around  $ 300,00 for this project

Due to the broad technical scope of this package, the first deliverable shall be developed as a structured master reference document. It shall provide procedure-level guidance, methodology, equipment requirements, QC checks, deliverables, typical task plans and timing assumptions for each activity, but it is not expected to replace a fully project-specific procedure prepared against a specific Client specification, vessel spread or contract requirement.

When bidding please state how quickly can get this done
