We are seeking a skilled and detailed-oriented Curriculum Writer to join our educational team. In this role, you will create, review, and enhance instructional materials for our technical and vocational programs for Pennsylvania Department of Education. You will work closely with instructors and industry experts (Subject Matter Experts - SMEs) to develop engaging, hands-on lesson plans, assessments, and training modules that meet industry standards (e.g., OSHA, NCCER, ASE) and prepare students for immediate employment. 

Key Responsibilities & Duties
  • Curriculum Development: Write and design comprehensive, competency-based curricula for technical trades (e.g., HVAC, Electrical, Welding, Automotive).
  • Industry Alignment: Ensure all instructional content aligns with current industry safety regulations, technical standards, and certification requirements.
  • Subject Matter Collaboration: Interview industry professionals and collaborate with internal instructors to gather accurate, up-to-date technical information.
  • Resource Creation: Develop lesson plans, instructor guides, student workbooks, lab exercises, and digital, interactive training modules.
  • Assessment Design: Create formative and summative assessments to measure student competency and hands-on skill proficiency.
  • Review & Revisions: Regularly evaluate and update existing curriculum based on industry shifts, technology advancements, and feedback from instructors.
  • Technology Integration: Incorporate multimedia and digital learning tools into curriculum design to support hybrid or online learning environments. 

Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, or a related field (or equivalent specialized trade experience).
  • Experience: 3–5 years of experience in curriculum writing, instructional design, or teaching technical/vocational subjects.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of specific skilled trades or technical fields.
  • Writing Ability: Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, engaging, and accessible instructional materials.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Canvas or Moodle. 

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Education or Curriculum & Instruction.
  • Experience in developing competency-based or apprenticeship programs.
  • Proficiency in e-learning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate). 

Soft Skills
  • Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders (instructors, administrators, industry partners).
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to ensuring accuracy in technical documentation.
  • Project Management: Strong time management skills to meet deadlines for multiple projects.
