Update PC Software from vB6 to vB.Net

We are seeking an experienced developer to take over and complete the modernisation of a legacy VB6 application.
Our existing software, originally written in VB6, interfaces with custom measurement instruments. It is responsible for downloading data, displaying log files, and allowing users to view, manipulate, and print results.
A partial migration to VB.NET has already been completed by a previous contractor, but the project remains unfinished. We now require a skilled developer to review, continue, and successfully complete this work.

Key Responsibilities
Analyse both the original VB6 application and the partially completed VB.NET version
Complete the migration to VB.NET, ensuring:
Full feature parity with the legacy system
Clean, stable, and maintainable code
Ensure compatibility with Windows 11


Maintain and enhance functionality including:
Data download from instruments
Log file viewing and manipulation
Printing capabilities


Hardware Integration
The software communicates with measurement instruments via a custom USB serial connection
We will provide the required instrumentation for development and testing
The final solution must reliably interface with these devices

Development Requirements
All work must be maintained in a Git repository, with regular commits and updates
Code should follow modern VB.NET practices (not just direct conversion from VB6)
Clear documentation of key components is expected

Timeline
Target completion: End of July
Immediate start preferred

Ideal Candidate
Strong experience with VB6 to VB.NET migrations
Experience working with serial/USB device communication
Ability to understand and refactor legacy codebases
Experience developing Windows desktop applications
