Our enterprise workloads run on a tightly-integrated z/OS environment that must stay current, secure, and highly available. I need a seasoned system programmer to take full ownership of installation, upgrade, and ongoing maintenance for the operating system itself as well as its IBM, BMC, and other ISV products.
You’ll work directly in SMP/E, prepare and apply maintenance, and keep RACF rulesets aligned with corporate security policy. System initialization, PARMLIB tailoring, JES configuration, Sysplex tuning, and Coupling Facility management are all part of the daily rhythm here, so deep hands-on experience with each is essential.
The role also includes:
• Building and validating new IODFs through HCD
• Managing DFSMS storage classes and policies
• Exercising and documenting Disaster Recovery procedures
• Supporting the language stack—PL/I, COBOL, Assembler, REXX, Java for z/OS, node.js, and Python for z/OS—ensuring compilers and run-times remain in sync with OS levels
Deliverables will be accepted when:
1. All targeted z/OS and product maintenance is applied cleanly under SMP/E.
2. Updated PARMLIB members and Sysplex settings are performance-tuned and backed by before/after metrics.
3. RACF and related security definitions pass our scheduled audit.
4. A successful DR test demonstrates IPL to workload readiness within the agreed RTO.
5. Comprehensive implementation documentation is provided for hand-off to operations.
If you thrive in a z/OS Sysplex and enjoy keeping mission-critical systems running flawlessly, I look forward to collaborating with yo
