Researchers have successfully devised a new method to treat snoring by relying on a drug to treat children's epilepsy.

The American Journal of Respiratory Medicine and Intensive Care reported that a clinical trial conducted by a research team from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, showed the effectiveness of carbon anhydrase inhibitors in treating sleep apnea.

The research team used the drug "Solthiam" available in the drug market as a treatment for epilepsy in children, where they found a marked improvement in the condition of sleep apnea patients who received the drug.

The clinical trial that led to this result involved 59 patients with moderate or severe sleep apnea, who were randomly divided into two groups who received 400 or 200 mg of the drug, and a third group (control group) who received placebo, and the study lasted four weeks.
