American rapper Coolio, who was famous for his famous song "Gangstas Paradise" in 1995, died at the age of 59, his manager announced Wednesday.

Garris Posey told AFP that the prestigious Grammy-winning musician, whose real name is Artis Leon Ivy Jr., died in Los Angeles, but he did not indicate the cause of his death.

Posey, who is also a longtime friend of the singer, told celebrity website TMZ that he found Collio unconscious in a friend's bathroom.

Coolio began his career in California in the late 1980s, but gained stardom with the 1995 song "Gangstas Paradise", which was on the soundtrack for the movie "Dangerous Minds."

This song won a Grammy the following year.

In this song, Coolio used Stevie Wonder's "Bastime Paradise" soundtrack (1976).

Millions of copies of "Gangstas Paradise" have been sold around the world, reaching top sales in some countries
