Apple has unveiled an amazing next-generation CarPlay smartphone mirroring feature that will take over every screen in your car, and what the next generation of its in-vehicle smart mirroring system will look like.

The update will see mirroring technology give drivers greater control over their vehicle's features and will take control of every screen.

The Apple CarPlay announcement was revealed during the annual Worldwide Developers Conference, with information about Apple's latest iOS operating system that iPhones and iPads also run on.

“The next generation of CarPlay goes even further with deep integration with in-vehicle hardware, where CarPlay will be able to deliver content to multiple screens within the vehicle, creating a unified and consistent experience,” Apple said.

So far, CarPlay has been largely featured on the central infotainment screen in cars and in a limited number of applications such as music, phone and navigation.

As more cars add multiple screens inside, it's clear that Apple is seizing the opportunity to expand and take on the full digital driver experience.

Apple continued by describing the new update: "Deeper integration with the car will allow users to do things like control the radio or change the climate directly through CarPlay, and using the car's data, CarPlay will display speed, fuel level, temperature, and more on the device very seamlessly."

Users will be able to customize their driving experience by choosing different gauge cluster designs, and with the added support of tools, users will have at-a-glance weather and music information right on their car's dashboard.

This means that all you see inside will be Apple's iOS system — on the central infotainment screen, and on the digital gauges and third screens sometimes found elsewhere on the dashboard or in front of the passenger on some models.

Apple believes it will launch the new version of CarPlay in late 2023, and it will need a compatible car released around the same time in order to use the new mirroring.

Currently, CarPlay is just a tool installed on in-vehicle infotainment systems to provide a unified, consistent iOS-style interface. Connect your phone to your car, and music, directions and other apps are displayed through the in-vehicle infotainment console.

But Apple said the new CarPlay will completely reconfigure the dashboard, working with sensors inside the car to integrate more important and important information about the car.

Apple said 98% of new car models sold in the US support CarPlay in its current implementation.

Cars from manufacturers such as Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes, Porsche, Nissan, Infiniti, Ford, Lincoln, Volvo, Polestar, Honda, Acura, Renault and Audi will feature this new technology from Apple.
