Biden refuses to discuss Turkish objections to NATO with Erdogan

At this stage, US President Joe Biden does not plan to contact Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in light of Ankara's concerns about NATO expansion. Jake Sullivan, national security adviser to the head of the US state, stated this. His words were quoted by RIA Novosti.

“At the moment, there are no such plans,” Sullivan said during a briefing, answering a question from a journalist.

Earlier, Erdogan said that Turkey does not consider it right to include Finland and Sweden in NATO. In his opinion, the alliance has already made a mistake by accepting Greece, which is known for its anti-Turkish rhetoric, into its membership.

Last Wednesday, May 18, Sweden and Finland officially applied to join NATO. Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed the move. He guaranteed "the prompt resolution of the issues necessary for this" and promised to adapt the security system in the Baltic Sea.

Finland and Sweden until recently had a non-bloc status. The authorities of the two countries announced their intention to join NATO shortly after the start of Russia's special operation.

At the same time, Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin said that the deployment of bases or nuclear weapons in the country after joining NATO is not considered.Biden refuses to discuss Turkish objections to NATO with Erdogan
