Le projet de loi déposé à la Chambre des représentants vise à inclure la création et la diffusion de fausses nouvelles parmi les infractions prévues par la loi anti-cybercriminalité.

The measure, House Bill 2971, was filed last week.

"It cannot be stressed enough that nowadays, people have been repeatedly misinformed about what they consider to be data and facts through the advent of 'fake news'," the bill's explanatory note read.

"Both misinformation and disinformation must not go unpunished, especially since it poisons the minds of our citizens by distorting the truth," the explanatory note stated.

The bill seeks to amend Republic Act (RA) 10175 or the "Cybercrime Prevention Act."

If the bill is passed into law, the creation and dissemination of fake news will be among the content-related offenses under RA 10175.

Also if the bill is passed into law, RA 10175 will have a definition of fake news.

The bill was referred to the House Committee on Information and Communications Technology on Monday.
