Constructed Language Development

$70/hr Starting at $4K

I can create fictional languages for your project. A growing number of science fiction and fantasy stories are incorporating conlangs, or artificial languages constructed for the story being told. Conlangs have numerous advantages for a books, video games, television, and movies. They make the setting seem richer and can set the tone of the story being told. The language itself can even play into the story itself, such as in the Na'vi phrase translated as "I see you" in Avatar (2000). Linguistic details can also help provide efficient characterization and worldbuilding, such as in the episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation "Parallels" when crewmembers sang a Klingon version of "For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow." This is where I can help. With my passion for linguistics, I am well-suited to construct an artificial language or even a series of artificial languages for your book, movie, or television show. If you simply want a few choice words or phrases, move along. I’m interested in designing fully functioning languages with their own sound systems, morphology, syntax, and unique words. I can also design a new orthography for this language, as well as an intuitive Romanization system. I can also create language learning guides and dictionaries that provide instruction on how to pronounce the words and how the language itself works. Do you want a constructed language that feels appropriate for a desert setting? I can tailor it to sound and feel like a mix of Arabic, Persian, and Hebrew. Do you want an alien language that sounds different but is still pronounceable by humans? I can incorporate elements from languages your audience isn't familiar with.
