Joan is a professional writer, photographer, animal rights activist, and environmentalist. While attending the Photojournalism Programme at Loyalist College in Belleville, Ontario, she worked as a Photojournalist for the "Community Press Newspaper," and is presently the Ottawa Animal Welfare Writer for the online newspaper, "The Ottawa Examiner." She holds a Masters degree in English Literature from the University of Toronto, and a Masters of Environmental Studies from York University, in Toronto, where her thesis focused on Animal Rights. Joan wrote a paper called "Animals and the Legal System," and was an invited guest speaker at an Animal Rights conference, at Brock University, in St. Catherine's, Ontario.
