In the last two years, I have developed and consulted on several Java-based e-commerce shopping carts for clients whose annual revenues range from $1 million to $1 billion. This has given me a strong skill set specific to the retail industry that others don't have. One particular client appreciated the specialized skills that I brought to the table so much that they invited me to work with them permanently. At other clients, I have worked along-side other developers, graphic designers, etc. seemlessly to create a project as a team. At my current client, they have asked me to team up with two other individuals to finish up a project.
