and World must help check cholera cases in Mideast, our editors comment on the top stories of November 5

Tomorrow, November 6, thousands of people will cycle on Sheikh Zayed Road for Dubai Ride, the annual flagship event of Dubai Fitness Challenge. For those who have no bicycle, Roads and Transport Authority and Careem have teamed up to provide rent-free bikes for the occasion. This shows the deep care and proactive efforts of the emirate in promoting community health. Let's support this initiative by turning up bright and early for the Ride.

WORLD MUST HELP CHECK CHOLERA CASES IN MIDEAST:

Cholera is sweeping across Lebanon, Syria and Iraq. Lebanon last month reported the first cholera case in nearly 30 years. With devastated infrastructure, turmoil and housing large populations of people, who have been displaced by conflict living in tents and have no access to safe drinking water, these nations are struggling to cope with the deadly disease. The outbreaks of hundreds of thousands of cases are a major setback to global efforts to eradicate the disease. WHO has been working with health authorities to help bolster their response. Unicef said it urgently needs $40.5 million to continue its work in Lebanon and Syria. The UN agencies not just need financial support but also medical teams to check the disease before it spreads to other countries in the region.
