Editing and proofreading services

Editing and proofreading documents are two different processes that often come together. My services may include one or the other, or both, depending on your needs. While proofreading is usually done on the final draft of the document, editing is performed from the beginning until the final draft is ready.

Proofreading a document involves looking into, detecting and correcting mostly language issues, at the levels of grammar, punctuation and spelling. It also aims at identifying possible inconsistencies in terminology and referencing. Proofreading addresses surface-level issues and does not require much collaboration with the author.

Editing seeks to improve the overall quality of the document by enhancing structure, readability and flow. It also looks into language but it addresses the writing process itself, while paying attention to how content is developed and arguments built. Editing can bring about major improvements or extensive changes to a document since it addresses the core elements of writing, including sentence building, word choice, tone, articulation of ideas, among others.

If your document has been edited, you are confident of the language and structures used, and needs to undergo a final check before submission, then you just need it to be proofread.

If your document needs significant revision and you want to engage in collaborative work to polish and refine it, then you need it to be edited.

Or, we can do both.
