I have an extensive background in proofreading and editing. Currently, I am a freelance reporter for the Associated Press in Michigan. Because of this, I have a keen knowledge of AP style guidelines. Previously, I served as a reporter/editor for United Press International for six years. My responsibilities included covering news and sports, writing features and editing dozens of stories each day. I also served as the press secretary for the mayor of Dearborn, Michigan for six years and as the media relations coordinator for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan for nearly three years. In those two positions, I worked directly with local and national media outlets and my duties also included writing news releases as well as coordinating a number of high profile events such as the Olympic Torch visit and annual Memorial Day parades. While at Blue Cross, I also served in various other positions including editor, writer and webmaster.
