I have gained experience in multimedia journalism during my studies at Columbia College Chicago. In January 2015, I reported while abroad during an intensive three-week course in Dublin, Ireland. This experience developed my news judgment and production skills. It also provided me the opportunity to report outside of my comfort zone and in a different culture. At the Columbia Chronicle, which is the award-winning, student- run newspaper at Columbia, I worked as a Metro Reporter. With this position, I covered local news throughout the city of Chicago. I reported on disability access and a new trauma center opening up on the South Side. I have volunteered during the summer to teach English to adult learners. I served at the Erie House in Chicago. This experience allowed me to give back to members of my community. It was rewarding, experience to learn and grow from interacting with my students. Outside of the classroom, I have worked as an intern for ABC7 in Chicago, and ABC6 and FOX28 News in Columbus, Ohio. As an intern, I researched stories and assisted the editors with production. During my time at ABC7 in Chicago, I coordinated social media posting and wrote web stories. These internships have enhanced my skills and have taught me how to be detailed orientated, collaborate, and help bridge the gap between reporters and producers. The combination of my academic background, journalism, and hands-on internships has helped me develop the skills needed to be successful at the Program Coordinator position.
