Most forms of development now require an environmental assessment to identify and mitigate potential impacts to the biological and physical elements of an ecosystem, including geology, topography, hydrology, soils, vegetation, wildlife and fish, and fish habitat. An assessment can also include social and cultural impacts, to ensure community benefits are maximized. The process ensures that these sensitivities and constraints are considered and managed through the planning, operation, and decommissioning of the project, in order to meet sustainable development objectives and maintain healthy environments and vibrant communities. From the business perspective, environmental assessments can also avoid costly delays in project implementation and facilitate the acquisition of federal, provincial, and municipal approvals (and community buy-in), often necessary for the project to proceed. Environmental Assessment Services Environmental assessments rely on a well-coordinated multi-disciplinary team that can address the impacts to specific resources, the complex ecological interactions among them, and the potential implications for clients and the public.
