ESP32 ethernet and lora

$25/hr Starting at $250

Chip: W5500 (common), W5100S, ENC28J60 (older/slower)

Pros

  • Very easy routing (SPI)

  • Works well on 2-layer or 4-layer

  • Minimal PHY/RMII sensitivity

Cons

  • More SPI traffic/CPU overhead than native MAC+PHY

  • Max throughput lower than RMII (usually fine for IoT)

When to pick it

  • You want the fastest path to a stable board.

  • You don’t need high throughput.

RFM95/96/98 (SX127x), or newer SX1262 modules

Pros

  • RF matching mostly solved

  • Faster compliance path

  • Less tuning pain

Cons

  • Slightly larger, sometimes more expensive

Bare radio IC

Only do this if you want to tune RF/matching and have RF measurement capability.
