For the last six years, I have worked as a marketing professional for an award-winning civil engineering firm in Southern California. For the first two years of my career, I was the sole marketing professional responsible for all aspects of proposal writing and coordination. As the firm grew, I was given the increased responsibility of hiring, training, and managing a marketing staff of three to four individuals at a given time. I have found that developing detailed proposal schedules with hard internal deadlines, following up regularly with contributors, and offering assistance when a team member is struggling to meet a deadline makes timely proposal development run much more smoothly. Developing proposals for government clients. During my time with my previous employer, approximately 85% of our proposals went to municipal government clients. While municipal government is where I have the most experience, I have also led several federal (Standard Form 330), state, utility, and commercial proposal efforts.
