Germany to focus on human rights

$20/hr Starting at $25

BERLIN, November 21 (Reuters) - Germany, in agreement with the United States, has announced that it will take the issue of reviving the 2015 nuclear deal out of focus in support of protesters in Iran, which has suffered state violence. A spokesperson for the German foreign ministry said in a press statement, "We are moving in exactly the same line (with the United States on this issue).

Negotiations between major Western states and Iran to re-enforce the 2015 nuclear deal hit a stalemate in September. Western states stated that the Iranian government made unreasonable demands while the negotiations were very close to a conclusion. Robert Malley, who represents the US in negotiations with Iran, said earlier this month that US President Joe Biden's government will leave the door ajar for resumption of diplomatic initiatives "when the time comes", but for now the US will continue its policy of sanctions and pressure.

Anti-government protests broke out across the country in September after 22-year-old Mahsa Amini died in Iran after being detained by morality police for violating the Islamic dress code. The European Union, the USA, Canada and the UK began to impose sanctions on Iran for human rights violations in Iran and for Iran's sale of drones to Russia, which occupied Ukraine.
