The daughter of an American diplomat, Alice grew up in four different Asian countries. Returning to the US as a teenager, she became passionate about the cello. Alice majored in cello performance and began her working life as a full-time professional cellist, performing on 4 continents with major London orchestras. However, in 1994 her first , contemporary, novel was accepted by a major publisher, Orion, who also published her second. Her only child, Rachel, was born in 1997, after which she had her first humorous book published and chose to concentrated more upon ghost writing. Since that time, she has written over 30 full-length books for other people, along with innumerable smaller-length projects.
