Japan evacuates its citizens from Sudan

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced that all Japanese citizens who wanted to leave Sudan, where clashes were taking place between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the army, were evacuated from the country. The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs also announced that the Japanese Embassy in Sudan was temporarily closed.


While a ceasefire was declared between the two sides for 72 hours, the Japanese government made a statement regarding the situation of its citizens in the region. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced that all Japanese citizens wishing to leave Sudan were evacuated from the country. Sharing the information that 45 Japanese citizens and their families left the country with the Japan Self-Defense Forces (SDF) plane, Kishida stated that the other 8 people were evacuated with the help of France and international organizations. Kishida emphasized that in cooperation with the relevant governments, they will do their utmost to provide support and ensure their safety to Japanese citizens staying in Sudan.


The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the embassy in Sudan was temporarily closed.

At least 420 people lost their lives in the clashes that broke out between the RSF and the army in Sudan. After the developments in the region that increased security concerns, many countries announced that they would evacuate their citizens. Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary, Hirokazu Matsuno, announced last week that the government would send the Japan Self-Defense Forces to evacuate its citizens living in Sudan.


On the other hand, it was stated that there are about 60 Japanese citizens in Sudan.
