BROCKTON — Mourners gathered at a makeshift memorial for Katelyn McCarthy, a senior at Abington High School, who was struck and killed by an MBTA commuter rail train in her hometown of Abington near the Birch Street crossing.

A pedestrian was struck and killed in Brockton early Wednesday morning. A witness said a Toyota Prius struck a telephone pole and a woman at 6:36 a.m. in the vicinity of Ash and West Chestnut streets.

More than 200 students and their family members attended a pre-prom gathering at a home on Charles Street in Bridgewater to take photographs before heading to the Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School junior prom.

Downtown could be home to one of the few "vertical farms" in the nation, bringing 50 jobs and year-round fresh produce to Brockton.
