Kieran Maguire: Cristiano Ronaldo may

$25/hr Starting at $25

Cristiano Ronaldo’s personal deal with Binance is likely worth more than the £20million per year Man United earn from Tezos.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the legendary Portuguese forward’s commercial pulling power.

Ronaldo was used in the promotional material as United struck a reported £20m-a-year deal with blockchain specialists Tezos in February earlier this year.

The 37-year-old announced via Twitter last Wednesday (23 June) that he has now partnered with Binance, who also operate in the blockchain industry.

United typically generate among the highest commercial revenues in world football, and re-signing Ronaldo from Juventus in August last year was seen in some quarters as a play to boost their appeal in this area.

But Maguire argues that Ronaldo himself is in fact more attractive as a brand to individual sponsors that the club.

“Luke Shaw and Andy Robertson have their own range of NFTs, for reference,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“This will all be part of the intellectual property deals that have been signed by individual players.

“Players tend to be more high-profile than managers in terms of social media interactions and so on.

“This will potentially be more lucrative for Ronaldo than United’s deal. From a social media perspective, he is bigger than the club.”

Ronaldo scored 24 times in 38 appearances in 2021-22.

He will travel with United as they get their pre-season fixture campaign underway against Liverpool in Bangkok later this month (12 July).
