New BMW X1 (2022) - The third-generation BMW X1 was recently caught being tested ahead of its planned reveal before the summer. Different from previous prototypes, the one spotted on the Nürburgring circuit now displays a little less camouflage.

Beneath its body, the new BMW X1 will use a front-wheel-drive platform, with more capable variants likely to come with all-wheel-drive, as well as an all-electric model dubbed the iX1, in addition to multiple plug-in hybrid versions. able to reach 80 km WLTP without burning fossil fuel. The immortalized prototype appears to be powered by a traditional internal combustion transmission - either a turbocharged three- or four-cylinder engine - since it has only a single filler flap and lacks the yellow sticker required for electrified development vehicles.

Close cousin of the Series 2 Active Tourer

At the front, the BMW X1 sports a large grille and seems to take up part of the design of the X2 for its shield, while the headlights are reminiscent, in their shape, of those inaugurated by the Series 2 Active Tourer minivan. From the latter it will also inherit the flat sides as well as the door handles that can be lifted to promote aerodynamics, but the SUV retains its classic mirrors when its big brother, more family-friendly, adopts flag-type "glasses". At the rear, the lights seem lower than on the current X1, and above all thinner.


BMW X1 price

On board, the X1 is expected to sport a similar minimalist design to the second-generation 2 Series Active Tourer, via a large, curved infotainment unit including the latest generation of iDrive software. Launched next fall, BMW's new SUV should start its prices at around €33,000.
