It’s been a relatively slow week in Pensacola as many look forward to weekend Independence Day celebrations and the Blue Angels Pensacola Beach Air Show the following weekend.

Some exciting things have happened. Like Pensacola was ranked among “America’s Best Cities,’ according to international real estate, tourism and economic development firm Resonance Consultancy.

Eight schools in Escambia and Santa Rosa have new principals

When classes start in the fall, the Escambia County School District will have seven new principals, and one Santa Rosa County public school will have a new interim principal.

Also, there will be six new assistant principals at Escambia County schools and four new assistant principals in the Santa Rosa County district.

The ECSD school board announced its new principal and assistant principal appointments at its June 21 board meeting. Most of the appointments were from within inside the district, but four new administrators were brought in from outside the district.

The Santa Rosa County School Board has announced five administrators who have been appointed to new leadership positions for the 2022-2023 school year.

School may be out for the summer, but there is one more celebration of student-athletes to be had before turning them loose.

The Pensacola News Journal Spring All-Area teams are official for the 2022 season, with many local individuals and teams making deep playoff runs or setting program history.

Here's a look at the complete list of all-area athletes for weightlifting, flag football, lacrosse, tennis, track and field, softball and baseball.

Beardless Brewhaus braces for late-summer opening in downtown Milton

The bar is built. The tables and chairs are painted. The menu boards and TVs are hung.

The only thing the sparkling new location of Milton's Beardless Brewhaus is missing is its customers. That and approval of its fire suppression system.

What was expected to be a couple of months move down the road for Milton's beloved brewery, Beardless Brewhaus, has turned into a year-long stretch for owners Nick Holmes and Steve Dobbs, who purchased the downtown building last June.

One of the main appeals of the new spot at 5139 Elmira St. is that it is five times the size of the former space at 6820 Caroline St., allowing the owners additional space for a tap room, brewery and event space for functions like weddings or office parties.
