Best known for playing Sandy in the popular musical "Grace," has died at the age of 73, her family has announced.

Actress and musician Newton-John has achieved commercial success as a country singer and has sold millions of copies of her songs globally. But it was Sandy's role in Grace's film that propelled her to world fame.

The film was the biggest box office success in 1978, and Newton John gave three huge singles, including You The One That I Want and Summer Nights, performed with co-star John Travolta .

Her participation changed both her image and her musical career, helping her get rid of her innocent image associated with her performance of country and pop music.

Travolta wrote on Instagram that she "made our lives all much better." He addressed her, saying: "Your impact was amazing. I love you so much." "We'll see you soon and we'll all be together again. To you from the first moment I saw you forever!"

Oscar-winning actress Marley Matlin, who co-starred alongside Newton-John in the 1996 film "It's My Party," described her as "the most beautiful and brightest light" in a tribute to her on Twitter.

Dion Warwick, who recorded a duet with Newton-John in 2006, wrote on Twitter: "Another angelic voice added to the heavenly choir."

She won four Grammy Awards and won first place in the United States for seven songs between 1974 and 1977.

While critics never appreciated her commercial musical style and proximity to what the public loved, the star rejected criticism.

She told the Rolling Stone: "It bothers me when people think because it's commercial, it's bad." "It's the exact opposite. If people like it, that's what it's supposed to be."

In 2019, after being diagnosed with breast cancer for the third time, CBS News asked her how she handled it.

"It was consuming my day and after a while I decided that I needed to enjoy my life, so I would eat candy if I wanted to," she said.

"Because the pleasure of life and everyday life must be part of this healing process as well. So I chose this path to be grateful and feel good about things because the other side is not good."

In a statement posted on his social media channels, Newton-John's husband praised her as "a symbol of victories and hope for more than 30 years in her journey with breast cancer."

"Her therapeutic inspiration and pioneering experience in plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to research in plant medicine and cancer."
