I'm an electronics and software engineer with 35+ years of experience building things from silicon to dashboard — IC layout, custom PCB design, embedded firmware, and full application development. If your project touches hardware, firmware, or software (or all three), there's a good chance I can help.
What I do:
- PCB Design & Layout — Schematic capture through production-ready Gerbers (Eagle). Recent and past work spans a wide range: a 96-channel servo control hub, a 15A programmable circuit breaker, BLDC and stepper motor controllers, load cell signal boards, and a custom multi-drop communication protocol supporting 1,000+ addressable nodes on a single network — built when supply chain shortages made off-the-shelf CANBUS chips unavailable.
- Embedded Firmware — PIC Assembly, Arduino/C, and ESP8266/ESP32 development. Work ranges from motor control and sensor interfacing to cloud-connected hardware (a clock that syncs time and renders patterns via Server-Sent Events from a cloud backend) and mesh-networked data loggers uploading to the cloud automatically.
- Full-Stack & Backend Development — Python, Perl, and PHP-CGI backends paired with HTML/JS front ends. Live examples include a real-time inventory/request-tracking system with approval workflows (Express), a bi-directional WebSocket IoT platform, and a skill-matching web tool (Connect). I also built a visual flowchart-to-code generator ("Wired to Think") that compiles flowcharts directly into working PIC Assembly, C, or Arduino firmware.
- Technical Documentation & Writing — Regular contributor to Nuts and Volts magazine, YouTube channel (@ICPolyman) documenting real projects. I write documentation other engineers actually trust.
Background:
Two U.S. patents from prosthetics R&D work at Sabolich. Career includes National Semiconductor, Parallax Inc., Oklahoma Robotics, and Codex Energy before going independent. Early founder in the Oklahoma City maker/hackerspace scene (OhmSpace, Prototek).
How I work:
Clean, maintainable solutions over quick hacks — single-deploy scripts, clear documentation, hardware and code that still work months after delivery. Comfortable with a narrowly scoped task or full end-to-end ownership.

If you have a project that needs hardware and software expertise working together — or just one piece of that pipeline — let's talk about what you're building and how I can help.
