Our Beta Reading Process

Every project begins with understanding your manuscript, genre, target audience, approximate word count, current stage of development, and any specific areas you would like reviewed.

The manuscript is approached from a reader’s perspective to identify suitable strengths, areas of confusion, engagement issues, and opportunities for improvement.

For fiction projects, feedback can cover suitable elements such as plot development, characters, dialogue, pacing, story structure, worldbuilding, emotional impact, and overall readability.

For nonfiction projects, feedback can focus on suitable organization, clarity, reader engagement, content flow, accessibility, and overall effectiveness.

Particular attention can be given to specific questions or concerns provided before the review begins.

Feedback can identify sections where the story feels engaging, confusing, rushed, slow, repetitive, predictable, or otherwise suitable for further consideration.

Observations can also be provided regarding characters, motivations, relationships, plot developments, and other story elements based on the manuscript and project requirements.

A written reader report can be prepared to organize key observations, strengths, concerns, and suitable suggestions.

The goal of beta reading is to provide a fresh perspective before further editing, revision, or publication preparation.

Manuscripts and project materials are handled according to the agreed confidentiality requirements.

Whether you need feedback on a novel, short story, nonfiction manuscript, or another written project, we can review your work according to your specific requirements.

Share your manuscript, genre, approximate word count, target audience, current development stage, specific concerns, preferred feedback format, and final delivery requirements to get started.

  • ScienceTeacher says,

Ken and his associates were hired to create an Microsoft Access Database for us to manage visitors to our museum. He is accessible by phone and e-mail and has excellent communication skills. The database he created manages payments, invoices, schedules it on our calendar with one click, e-mails confirmations, and produces reports in one easy to use design. There were some edits that needed to happen to work out the kinks but he stuck with the project until it worked 100% and fulfilled the requirements as we described in our project description. When hiring on GURU, having a clear project description and supporting examples of any kind, with clear needs and outcomes on GURU is important.
