Proofreading and Editing

$15/hr Starting at $25

In the summer of 2021, I sought out an editorial internship at a publishing house in my city. I was chucked into the deep end, expected to write in a style I was unfamiliar with and topics I had very little knowledge about. However, I found myself revelling in the challenge. Within a few weeks of my internship, I was producing 5-6 articles a day to a high quality and quickly had to overcome the pre-publishing anxiety with my work being uploaded immediately. I became responsible for monitoring my own grammar and punctuation and earned myself a reputation on the editorial team for having a meticulous eye for detail.

A month into my experience, I was also offered the opportunity to proofread and edit the final copy of senior editors’ work before being sent to design and print; something I am very proud of. Ensuring the information I was tasked to write about was delivered concisely and clearly was a priority but, to me, so was weaving personality into the work I was producing and therefore ensuring readers were kept engaged and entertained.

Following my internship at BizClik Media, I was offered freelance work by two of the senior editors on the team who had been impressed with my style of writing and ability to meet tight deadlines. Again, I was expected to write about topics I knew very little but I’ve never shied away from seeking help and guidance when I need it. After several rounds of questioning, my confidence in writing about the supply chain and its sustainability issues has grown and I have learnt to follow a brief supplied by clients to produce articles targeting a niche audience of professionals.

I have a feature published in the magazine “Mining Global” and my web stories were published daily on BizClik Media’s collection of websites including Sustainability, Food Digital, and Energy. Additionally, I have also ghostwritten articles published on the SupplyShift website.

Currently, I’m pursuing a degree in English Language and Applied Linguistics with Spanish, and this is something that has kept me sane throughout the pandemic. Learning in detail about the way a language ticks, expanding upon my knowledge of English, and gaining an important understanding of the culture and language of another country is exciting and I find it easy to sink my teeth into.

As with anything I do, I give it my all. I’m confident, passionate, creative, and enjoy honing new skills. Writing with vigour and personality is important to me.

I look forward to hearing from you.
