Sarek National Park, Sweden

$25/hr Starting at $25

Today let’s explore the winding valleys of Europe’s oldest national park – Sarek National Park, established in 1909. Located in the Lapland province of northern Sweden, a UNESCO World Heritage site, Sarek National Park boasts 1,968 square kilometres of unspoiled wilderness. Within its panorama of soaring mountains, rivers and lakes, you’ll find Rapa Valley. Largely considered to be one of Europe’s most enchanting landscapes, this 35-kilometre-long valley is intersected by Rapa River, which forms one of the most picturesque deltas on the continent. Among the wildlife you can spy here are wolverines, lynx, bears and elks.

As we’re north of the Arctic circle, the best times to visit are late spring, summer and early autumn. While the remote, high-alpine region is popular with tourists, particularly hiking enthusiasts, be warned that this part of northern Sweden’s Lapland region is only recommended for experienced and well-prepared hikers. The weather is severe and unpredictable, and there are no accommodation options available for tourists.
